Dayana Frías, head coach of Venezuela, has reacted to her team’s defeat to Nigeria’s Flamingos, AFRI MEDIA reported.
South Americans were eliminated from the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup after losing 1-0 to Nigeria.
Nigeria outplayed La Vinotinto but the defence was solid.
It looked like a shoot-out was on the cards but the Flamingos were given a late penalty when Venezuela defender Migleydys Bolsegui was ruled to have fouled Oluebube Umejiaka.
Azeezat Oduntan completed the spot-kick to book Nigeria’s place in the final four.
“We paid for our mistake in the game,” Frías remarked.Good performance overall but I think we made one mistake and payed for it.
“It’s been really beautiful and rewarding as far as the experience,” Frías told FIFA.
“Delighted to see how they have grown and developed as footballers during the tournament.
“We have also seven players that are eligible to return next year, so I think they are ready to return and keep growing.”
