Nigeria’s Flamingos have reached the semi-finals of the ongoing 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup after a hard-fought 1-0 win against Venezuela.
Azeezat Oduntan was the heroine, coolly slotting home a late penalty to seal the win for the Nigerian side.
The Flamingos had the upper hand for the most part of the match but unable to crack a solid Venezuelan defence.
Akeem Busari’s team created a number of chances but were wasteful in front of goal as Venezuela presented little threat going forward.
With the match clearly going for extra time, Nigeria were granted a penalty when Oluebube Umejiaku was brought down in the box.
Oduntan stepped up and comfortably fired the penalty to send the Flamingos into the last four.
Busari’s team now switch their focus to a semi-final clash against Brazil on Wednesday as they continue their quest for the trophy.
